Knitting Retreat

November 7 & 8 2008

Our AK West Retreat will be held November 7 & 8 at the Ashland Springs Hotel

This is what I have so far on the agenda:

Yarn crawling

· Visit to Llamas and Llambs in Jacksonville

· Visit to the Web*sters in Ashland

· Visit to the Middleford Yarn Alley in Medford

· Goodie bags with a project gift for everyone

We'll have our own fashion show of things we've made, or maybe some things that should have never been made...

And Sonja (owner of Middleford Yarn Alley) usually puts on a fashion show while we're up there. We are also invited to join their fashion show to show off our knitting prowess in that as well.

Update:  If you something you’ve made will be modeled in Middleford Yarn Alley fashion show, please contact Sonja (541) 734-8800 by October 15th to sign up.

Update:  Sonja has also arranged for Joan Michael-McGowan to teach a class the same weekend that we will be there.  This is the class description from Middleford’s website:

Joan McGowan-Michael of White Lies Designs and author of Knitting Lingerie Style will be here on Nov. 7th & 8th for a very special workshop. This is an event you can’t afford to miss. What’s it about? In her own words:

“Adding designer shaping touches to your knitted garments is easy once you know a few simple rules and how to apply them. Flatter your figure by shaping any garment as you knit it. Darts, ease, and short row shaping are all important elements for a custom fit. Learn which ones to use to play up your specific body type to it’s best advantage.”

So what will this classes with Joan M-M cost?  $60 for 1 class, $105 for 2 classes.  Joan recommends that if you only take one class, that you take the first one.  Sonja tells me that when both classes are finished, you will walk away with a “body sloper” which is a flat pattern on paper drawn to the dimensions of your body.  This can then be used according to the given schematics or to design your own garments from scratch.   Participants of the first class should wear a snugly fitting tee shirt and smooth bottoms (no bulky pockets flaps or copious layers of fabric) as we will be taking measurements that day.

The classes will be held Friday and Saturday from 11-2.  There is a limit of 20 people per class.  Sign up is first come first served.  Call Sonja at Middleford Yarn to sign up:  (541) 734-8800

We'll have a little gift exchange which is always fun.

We'll play the "stealing game."  There will be a cost limit of $10-$15 on the gifts.

We will raffle off door prizes both evenings.  I’ve been working on donations and several have already made their way to my house.  *Wiggling in my chair*

Those that would like to, are welcome to knit for the Caps for Kids program that Middleford is collecting for.  I will be happy to donate extra raffle tickets to the two that bring in the most hats to be donated.

I plan on coming up on Thursday so I can grab some knitting time. I was so busy last year I didn't get to knit a single stitch!
